Originally, when we planned our trip, we were to go to Yosemite with my son and daughter-in-law but due to some road and accommodation closes in the park, we changed plans and decided to go to the Grand Canyon instead, breaking up the drive with an overnight stop in Las Vegas which gave us the chance to see the Beatles LOVE show at The Mirage and that was sensational.  Al is a HUGE Beatles fan so it was a pretty good plan B.  We explored The Venetian across the road from The Mirage while trying to find our way to the restaurant we had booked for dinner.  We were amazed at the replica canals complete with gondolas and the magnificent domed fake sky which caught Al out momentarily as we came up an escalator and he exclaimed, "Wow, look at that sunset" but on closer inspection, he realised his mistake!  We popped back to our room at The Mirage after a delicious Italian meal to catch the popular volcano show that is put on a few times at night in the grounds of the hotel.  After the Beatles show we organised  transport down to the Fremont Experience to see the most amazing video screen that Al had read about and was very keen to see.  Despite the lateness of the hour, we were persuaded to go, of course! Upon approaching the precinct we could see this massive screen that stretched in an arch and formed the roof over the length of the mall showing incredible scenes, including the beach, underwater marine life and forests, just to name a few.  The colours were incredible.  We strolled along the mall beneath this kaleidoscope of colour and watched the parade of fascinating people including street buskers, bands on stages, dancers, singers, street performers, drummers, not to mention the crowd wandering along taking it all in, just like us.  It was loud, colourful, vibrant and very busy even though it was quite a long way from The Strip.  A night to remember that's for sure and not even a flutter on anything!

We finished off our visit in Vegas with a delicious brekky at the hotel before hitting the road to get to the first of our main destinations, The Grand Canyon and then Sedona, to go hiking.  We intend to pack a lot in while we are here and make the most of every moment!
