Stunning Sedona

As we left The Grand Canyon on the morning of the Memorial Day Holiday, we witnessed a very long line of traffic waiting to enter the park which stretched for kilometres and made us very glad we were heading out, rather than in.

Whilst I had seen my son’s photographs of Sedona taken in the winter, which were stunning, I was still taken aback by the arresting beauty of this very interesting place with its gorgeous red rocks.  We rolled into the town of Sedona in the early afternoon and found a steakhouse with the red rock as a backdrop to enjoy a quick but delicious lunch, following which we strolled through the town, bought a couple of little souvenirs of our trip, and snapped our first photos of this unique place.

Once we checked into our very nice, cool and spacious Air BnB, we took off in the late afternoon for a hike behind our accommodation, along the Teacup Trail via Coffee Pot Rock to the Seven Sacred Pools, which was a lot easier than the Grand Canyon hike we did that's for sure! The colour of the red rocks bathed in the afternoon sunshine was a mixture of a soft pinky apricot and a vivid orange against the startling blue of the sky – the photos cannot do it justice.

The next day found us up early and on the trail to sneak in another hike before heading back to Irvine. This time, we drove to the other side of town to hike along Little Horse Trail with our final destination being what is apparently known as Chicken Foot, which afforded us a fabulous view all the way to The Bell once we climbed up further and we were so glad we did as we were able to get some great photos. It sure is wonderful to have two capable and experienced photographers along to take our photo in these amazing places, as I  have zero skills for taking a decent selfie!  I love flowers and have been delighted to see the wildflowers in the different locations, as well as the resident wildlife.  My son and daughter-in-law have a knack for spotting lizards and birds which has been very helpful to us oldies, I am not sure I would have spotted so many by myself and it was helpful that they, in the main, could identify them, although we did need to look up the beautiful lizard here and decided it was a Greater Earless Lizard.

No visit is complete to Sedona, according to my son, unless you call in to Sedonuts for morning tea and after sampling such a delight, I can definitely see why 😊

Big thanks to Emma once again who is in charge of the online shop while I am away and a reminder that some things have sold out but will be back in stock once I get I get home and making again, so please check back in early July.
