New Zealand adventures have begun!

Lyn Carroll

Rain and wind were not exactly what we were thinking of for our arrival in Christchurch on Tuesday afternoon but that is what we got and plenty of it.  We couldn't really go out and about and explore as it really was just too wet.  So we ventured into town with our umbrellas (which blew inside out!) and picked the first place we could find for dinner and we picked well as it turned out, enjoying a very nice quick meal of burgers and fries.  It was slightly less wet the next morning so I snapped some photos of the place we were staying as the couple who owned it had done a lovely job with the flowers, everything was so colourful!

After fortifying ourselves with a nice cup of warming coffee, we set off for Picton and we seemed to bring the rain with us.  Such a shame as our journey took us along a very dramatic coastline for some of the way and it would have been so good to be able to take photos but again, it was too wet and wild.  We did stop for a break and I took one photo before being nearly blown off my feet by a very strong wind (and the photo was rubbish :) )  As we got closer to Picton the sun began to try to come through the layer of clouds and we had glimpses of bright blue sky at times.  We called in to Blenheim to get some supplies and as it wasn't raining at that point, we were able to visit Seymour park and admire the stunning flower displays and the fountain.

On arriving in Picton, it was only raining lightly and after checking into our accommodation, we ducked down to the marina to have a look at where we need to go early tomorrow.  The sun came out for a bit through the stormy clouds and there was even a rainbow!  Then along came the wind again and the rain so we scarpered back to our accommodation to get ready for tomorrow.

We are all organised and ready for our hike along the Queen Charlotte track...I hope!  Hopefully, I will have some beautiful photos to share with you all in the next few days or after we return to Picton.  Thanks for reading this, Lyn x
