We left the wine country in the sunshine and travelled back south along the coastline, and this time, instead of a dull grey ocean, it was a beautiful blue.  It was a most enjoyable drive.  We noticed a railway track hugs the coast too and goes in and out of tunnels, but we only saw an actual train once on our journey.  We made a comfort stop at Kaikoura which turned out to be a bustling little holiday village with people everywhere soaking up the sunshine. We turned off the coast road at Amberly to go inland on Scenic Route...

Oh my goodness are we having a fabulous time in New Zealand.  We hiked the Queen Charlotte track over four days from Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge, stayed there overnight in a supremely comfortable bed after a wonderful dinner, then the following day hiked to Punga Cove and stayed there in a quaint little chalet overlooking the bay and a beautiful dinner with a fabulous view in the restaurant!  Next day we hiked to Ngahere Hou where we had a very different but equally marvellous experience at an eco-friendly BnB with once again those beautiful water views, and this time...

Rain and wind were not exactly what we were thinking of for our arrival in Christchurch on Tuesday afternoon but that is what we got and plenty of it.  We couldn't really go out and about and explore as it really was just too wet.  So we ventured into town with our umbrellas (which blew inside out!) and picked the first place we could find for dinner and we picked well as it turned out, enjoying a very nice quick meal of burgers and fries.  It was slightly less wet the next morning so I snapped some photos of the...
